Why Spring Skiing in Banff Should Be Your Easter Tradition

Easter in the Rockies is an experience so good, you’ll want to make it your spring ski tradition year after year. Easter weekend is the quintessential spring ski opportunity. All the elements needed for the perfect SkiBig3 vacation will come together perfectly. Spring festivities, snow that stretches beyond April, and enough time to truly experience all three resorts are just a few reasons that skiing in Banff should be your new Easter tradition. And here are a few more!

1. Discover SkiBig3 With an Extra-Long Weekend

Three resorts, two towns, one national park. With Good Friday and Easter Monday tacked on to either end of your weekend, four days will provide ample time to discover it all without feeling too rushed. There’s even time to take a rest day in between. Spend the day with a relaxing spa treatment, a Spring hike, or endless family-friendly activities. Or simply discover the town of Banff by foot to take in the sights at a more relaxed pace.

2. Great Savings on Ski & Stay Packages

Although there is still snow at the resorts by the time Easter comes around, April is considered “low season”. This means you can find last-minute low ticket prices and sweet deals on accommodation packages. With our Easter Spring specials, you can save up to 25% on lift and lodging combos.

3. Easter Festivities and Easter Mass on the Slopes

For the young and young-at-heart, there are a ton of family-friendly Easter activities to partake in right from the SkiBig3 slopes.

At Banff Sunshine Village, the festivities happen on both Saturday and Sunday. Meet Mr. and Mrs. Bunny in the Village from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on April 20th. On April 21st join Mr. and Mrs. Bunny for a special Egg Hunt at the top of Strawberry at 11:30 AM. You can attend Easter Mass right from the slopes, too! Join their Christian non-denominational Easter Church Service 10:00 am to 10:30 am at the top of Strawberry Chair.

At Lake Louise Ski Resort, the Easter Bunny will make his annual appearance on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. He never fails to have a basket full of chocolate eggs! Be sure to hop on over and say hello. Keep an eye out for the Easter Bunny and Griff the Grizzly as they make their way around the lodge and base area. They’ll be handing out Easter Eggs and posing for photos between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. And on Sunday, the Easter Bunny will be joining in at the Cardboard Box Derby! We’ll make sure he doesn’t weigh down his sled with chocolate eggs!

Mt. Norquay will also be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt! On Sunday April 21st, meet at 10 am inside the Cascade Lodge to register and spend a half hour digging in the snow for hidden chocolate treasures left by the Easter Bunny. Thousands of eggs will be hidden with outside in the snow so bring all your friends!  There is only one big hunt, so try to arrive before 10:00 am or you might miss out.

4. We Still Have Snow!

That’s right! April is still a fantastic time to visit as our high elevation in Banff National Park allows for an extra-long ski season. Although the valley bottoms are warming up to some pleasant sunny temperatures, we still see snow well into May higher up at the SkiBig3 resorts. Kids will love the soft beginner groomers and snow corn on more advanced runs.

5. Experience the Best of Both Seasons

Although skiing is still in full-swing at higher elevations, warm weather activities are just getting started in the Bow Valley below. Take the family out on an easy Spring hike to places like the Hoodoo Trail or Tunnel Mountain. Or, rent a bike and head out to Vermillion Lakes and the Fenland Trail for a rest day in the sun.

6. Indulge in Our Vibrant Culinary Scene With Easter Brunch

Banff’s food and bev scene has skyrocketed in recent years, leaving no palette unpleased (picky eaters included!). Whether you’re feeling a fun taco night, comforting Greek food, or Canadian campfire cuisine, Banff has it all! And it’s all within reach of just a few footsteps. Many local restaurants are serving up their Sunday best for Easter brunch this weekend, including Crave Mountain Grill, Fairmont Banff Springs (Easter Brunch and Easter Afternoon Tea are available), The Rimrock Hotel, and Buffalo Mountain Lodge.

7. It’s Easy to Navigate and Closer Than You Think

Don’t be fooled by our ‘Big’ name – navigating your way from airport to hotel to ski slope is easy. Talk to our Vacation Planners to book your airport shuttle which takes you directly from YYC International Airport to your hotel in Banff. From there, our frequent ski shuttles are located at convenient locations throughout the town of Banff, within a reasonable distance of most hotels.

The resorts themselves are easy to get around, too. At Banff Sunshine Village, the upper village ski area can be seen by all runs, and is connected to the lower Goat’s Eye Mountain via one main ‘ski artery’ that carries down all the way to the base area. At Lake Louise Ski Resort, there is a beginner run accessible from every lift.
